Bacon,
Krista Johnson, July, 20, 2011...... A two-vehicle crash on Wednesday killed
a Millington woman and injured three of her daughters on U.S. 51 north of
Millington, according to Shelby County Sheriff’s Office officials. Krista
Johnson, 41, died in the collision shortly before 7 p.m. on U.S. 51 near
Kerr-Rosemark, according to a statement released by sheriff’s office
spokesman Chip Washington. Three of Johnson’s daughters, passengers in the
2001 Jeep sport-utility vehicle she was driving, were injured. The sheriff’s
office identified them as Jazmyn Colquit, 20, Takera Johnson, 14, and Jordon
Jackson, 15. Colquit is listed in good condition today at the Regional
Medical Center at Memphis, hospital officials said. Johnson and Jackson were
transported in critical condition to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital. An
initial investigation, according to the sheriff’s office, found that a 2000
GMC Sonoma driven by Myrtle Teal, 77, also of the Millington area, was
heading south on U.S. 51 and attempted to turn left to a church parking lot.
The northbound Jeep swerved, but the Sonoma hit its left side, causing the
Jeep to flip several times. The two teenagers were ejected from the
sport-utility vehicle, and only the driver wore a seat belt, according to
the sheriff’s office. "Ironically everyone involved in this crash were going
to their churches at the time of the crash," Lt. Richard Nelson, commander
of the sheriff’s office Traffic Division, said by e-mail. Teal was
attempting to turn into the parking lot of her church and Johnson and her
family were on their way to their church for Wednesday services, Nelson
said. Teal was not injured. No charges had been filed as the investigation
continued. Obituary to follow if available
