Clarence B. Benedict, of New Windsor, N.Y. entered into rest Thursday, February 2, 2006 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh. He was 88. Son of Clarence Starr and Eliza Clinton Benedict, he was born October 27, 1917 in
Newburgh. Mr. Benedict was a lifetime resident of Newburgh except for a few years that he resided in Saratoga. Clarence was a life member of IBEW 631 and 363 and a member of the First Congregational Church of Newburgh. He was a
50-year member of Saratoga Masonic Lodge. Survivors include his wife, May F. Benedict; his daughter, Gail P. Farkas and her husband, George A.; his son, George Benedict and his wife, Heather Ann; grandchildren, Jacqueline M. Kaiser,

Legislator Joseph Costa of Newburgh has died. He represented Newburgh on the
legislature from 1978 through 1986. Costa was the founder and owner of the
former Costa Beverages in Newburgh, a local bottler of soft drinks. “Joe served
the citizens of the City of Newburgh with honor and distinction during his
tenure as an Orange County legislator,” said County Executive Edward Diana.
“Before being elected, Joe served his country during WWII as a member of the US

Catherine C. Crawford Xanthis, Newburgh, N.Y. an order room supervisor for New York Telephone Company and 84-year area resident, died March 27, 2004 at Wingate at Dutchess in Fishkill. She was 84. The daughter of the late Joseph
Crawford and Marie Dunn Crawford, she was born Oct. 2, 1919 in Newburgh. A family statement reads, "Although Mom struggled with many health problems in recent years, she was blessed to spend her final months with Dorothy Knapp, her
loving friend and roommate as well as many kind and caring health care professionals from Wingate and Hospice." She was a member of St. Patrick's Church, Telephone Pioneers of America, and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She
was a graduate of Newburgh Fee Academy. She was married on Jan. 24, 1943 in St. Patrick's Church in Newburgh. Her husband, George T. Xanthis died June 1998. Survivors include her daughters and son, Kathleen Maksomski and her husband
David of New Windsor, Ann Nancy McAllister and her husband Ross of Newburgh and John P. Xanthis and his wife Elizabeth of Goshen; brothers, Joseph Crawford of Fishkill, John Crawford of Buffalo; sister, Nancy Pike of Salt Point;
sister-in-law, Mabel Karageorge of NYC; grandchildren, Karen Mele and her husband Christian of Hackensack, N.J., Susan Maksomski of Riverdale, Nancy Maksomski and her fiance Michael DeMatteo of Hartsdale, Mary Maksomski of

Joseph T. Crawford, a lifetime resident of the area, died Wednesday, February 28, 2007 in Vassar Brothers Hospital, Poughkeepsie. He was 88. Son of the late Joseph and Marie Dunn Crawford, he was born May 24, 1918 in Newburgh. He was
married to the late Rose K. Vincent Crawford, who predeceased him in 2004. Joe graduated from Newburgh Free Academy, Class of '36. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II, receiving numerous medals and
commendations. He was a parishioner of St. Patrick's Church, a member of the Newburgh Country Club, Elks Lodge 247, and the Bachelor's Club. Survivors include his loving sons, Thomas J. Crawford and his wife, Karen of Fishkill and

Mary Regina Dale Rohme, 94, of Newburgh, NY passed away peacefully on April 29, 2013 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh. Born December 1, 1918, Mary was the daughter of Thomas and Elsie Dale. She married Joseph Rohme on November
18, 1941 and they were married 54 years before Joe's passing on February 6, 1996. Mary loved her church and family and was totally devoted to both. Mary enjoyed being part of the St. Mary's Seniors, Club 60, Women's Republican Club
and volunteering with Meals on Wheels. She was a happy member of the "Lady Bachelors", a club of best girlfriends who met every Thursday night for more than sixty years. Mary was an avid shopper, she looked forward to her Wednesday
lunches and she sure loved her NY Mets. Mary's passion for cooking was enjoyed at home and work. She was a cook for the Newburgh City School District at North Junior High School and loved working at West Point Farms. Mary is survived by
her two daughters: Patricia DeLeo and her husband, Gerard of Highland, Theresa Penney and her husband, Robert of New Windsor; grandson, Robert Penney, Jr. of Taylor Mills, KY; brother, Frank Dale and his wife, Meredith of Naples, FL. Mary
was very proud of being Godmother to Marc Giammarco, John Dale, Jr., Debbie Cramsie, and Jonathan Dale. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law: Margaret Dale and Toni Dale, and many beloved nieces and nephews. She will also be
greatly missed by Sherry Winningham and many other dear friends. Mary was predeceased by her four brothers: Thomas, Henry (Pat), John and William Dale and her six sisters: Margaret Salisbury, Helen McCann, Emily Giammarco, Betty
DeGeorge, Josephine Ashby, and Dorothy Talasco. The family would like to thank Roberta Russo, Ginny McCormack, Annette Hammen and Catherine Heffernan. Their comfort and kindness to Mary and the family will never be forgotten. Visitation

Former NY State Senator D. Clinton Dominick of Newburgh, NY and Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, died September 9, 2009. He was 91. Dominick, a lifelong resident of Newburgh, attended Newburgh schools including NFA,
graduated from Virginia Military Institute in 1940 and served in Europe during World War II. He was a member of the National Guard, eventually attaining the rank of colonel. He graduated from Columbia Law School in 1948 and practiced law
in Newburgh from 1948 to 2000. He served in the NY Assembly from 1955-1958 and the NY Senate from 1959-1970. He was the sponsor of the controversial abortion rights bill, legalizing abortion in NY state, which paved the way for the
landmark Supreme Court decision Roe. v. Wade. Dominick was a delegate to the 1967 New York State Constitutional Convention, and was appointed by Gov. Mario Cuomo to serve on the Board of Trustees of the State University of NY (SUNY). He
later taught political science at Mt. St. Mary College. His first wife, Nancy Ragan, died in 1978. His son, Steve Dominick, died in 2004. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Dominick of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; his children: Nick, Wendy,

Ruth Farmer Leonard of Walden, a retired treasurer of Mid-Hudson Co-op Insurance Company, Montgomery, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at home. She was 81. The daughter of Josiah and Matilda Farmer, she was born March 16, 1918, in
Newburgh. Survivors include two sons, David Leonard of Westbrookville and Edmond Leonard of Walden; two brothers, John Farmer of Richmond, Va. and Nathaniel Farmer of Rochester; one sister, Mary Gadbois of Newburgh; seven grandchildren;

Ruth E. Flanagan Sinisgalli, a lifelong resident of Newburgh, entered into rest on Thursday, October 5, 2006 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, Cornwall Campus. She was 87. Daughter of the late John and Gertrude Oakley Flanagan, she
was born on December 28, 1918 in Newburgh. She married Albert Sinisgalli on September 2, 1939, who survives at home. Ruth retired as a manager from the New York Telephone Co. in 1981. She graduated from Mount St. Mary College and
S.U.N.Y. New Paltz. She was also a member of the New York Telephone Pioneers. In addition to her loving husband of 67 years, Albert, she is survived by her daughter, Rhea Jacobson of Rockville, Md.; her grandchildren, Kelly Nelson of
Springfield, Va., Maureen Sinisgalli of Pleasant Valley, N.Y. and Lisa DeLavalle of Olive Bridge; her great-grandchildren, Casey and Devon Nelson of Springfield, Va., Melissa Sinisgalli and Daniel DeLavalle, both of Olive Bridge, and David

Anthony J. Franchini, a former Bookkeeper at West Point, N.Y., died January 2, 2007 at Valley View Nursing Home in Goshen. He was 89. He was born to the late Philip and Isabelle Franchini on March 14, 1917 in Newburgh, N.Y.
Anthony proudly served his country in the United States Army, in which he received an American Campaign Medal and a World War II Victory Medal. He is survived by his wife, Catherine "Kitty" Franchini of New Windsor; his daughter,

Robert J. Gilfeather, New Windsor, N.Y. a retired office worker for American Felt, died Saturday, June 14, 2003 at Cornwall Hospital. He was 85. He was born to Arthur and Maude Hudson Gilfeather on February 17, 1918 in Newburgh.
In 1944, Robert married his beloved Rose Mikutis at St. Francis Church in Newburgh; they spent 59 glorious years together. Robert was also a retired member of the New Windsor Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Newburgh
Fast Pitch Softball Hall of Fame. He is survived by his wife, Rose at home; two daughters, Susan Smith and her husband David of Pine Bush and Nancy Gilfeather of New Windsor; one son, Michael Gilfeather of New Windsor; and several nieces

Francis Burton "Burt" Greene, Newburgh, N.Y. a longtime resident of Newburgh, died peacefully on May 27, 2006 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, Cornwall Campus. He was 89. He was born on September 19, 1916 in Newburgh to the
late Charles and Frances McIntosh Greene. Frances was a World War II veteran, serving his country proudly in the Army Air Corps as a Military Police Officer. He was a retired School Custodian for the Newburgh School District. He was very
active in the community. He was the Chaplin for Club 60, a member of the New Windsor Senior Citizens, a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 969, and the American Legion Post 152. A family statement reads: "Bert loved his family and
friends. He loved sports, especially boxing and baseball. His favorite dance was the Cha Cha. He always left you with a cute joke and a smile on your face." Survivors include his devoted wife, Rita Tuckosh Green; loving children, Jerry

Peter Paul Hydrean, He passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at his home in Tucson. He was born February 10, 1919 in Newburgh, NY and is survived by his wife Stella of 60 years. He is also survived by his children, daughter, Cassie
Stern and husband, Fred of Dallas, TX; daughter, Nancy Jimmerson of Tucson and son, Paul Hydrean and wife Diane of Downingtown, PA., as well as six grandchildren, Michael and Emily Stern, Megan Jimmerson, Christen, Alex and Ben
Hydrean. Peter earned his B.S. degree in metallurgical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and his master's degree also in metallurgy from Stevens Institute of Technology. He worked initially for the Bulova Watch
Company and then had a long career as a metallurgist with International Nickel Company before retiring in 1982 when he began an engineering consulting practice. Peter and Stella lived in Mahwah, NJ, moved to Scottsdale in 1990 and
then onto Tucson in 2002. He was an avid tennis player, an excellent bridge player and a devoted church member. Our beloved Papou will be missed by his family and many friends. A Wake and Visitation will be held on Sunday, August

Ruth Innis Tighe of the Town of Newburgh entered into rest Sunday, May 9, 2010 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh with her loving family at her side. She was 90. The daughter of the late William and Mary Clark Innis, Ruth was born in Syracuse, NY on July 30, 1919, but grew up at Orange Lake making many childhood friends who remained close and dear throughout her life. After graduating from Newburgh Free Academy in 1936, Ruth was employed by the Town of Newburgh assessors office for many years. She was a lifelong member of the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post 1420 and her interests included playing bridge, reading, cooking, gardening, swimming, traveling and rooting for the New York Mets. Ruth was predeceased by her beloved husband, Mark S. Tighe; loving daughter, Jeanne Tighe Gemma; and brothers, William and Kirk Innis. Ruthie will always be remembered for her beautiful blue eyes, sharp mind, and quick wit and her selfless devotion to those she loved. It was a pleasure to have shared life with her. She will remain forever in our hearts. Barnett "Barney" Lennon, of Hoosick Falls, N.Y. died Monday, March 31, 2003 at the Hoosick Falls Health Center. He was 85. The son of the late Floyd and Grace (Bartell) Lennon, he was
born October 29, 1917 in Newburgh, N.Y. He was the husband of Beatrice (Warren) Lennon, they were married for 61 years. Barnett was educated at schools in Newburgh. He worked at the McBeth/Kollmorgan Company in Newburgh as a machinist
until retiring. Barney was an avid baseball fan, especially the Mets and as a youth he enjoyed bowling. Survivors other than his wife, Beatrice include two sons, Larry Lennon and his wife, Debbie, of Hoosick Falls, Bruce Lennon and his
wife, Amelia, of Sebastian, Florida; four grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. He was pre-deceased by a brother, William Lennon. Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. There will be no

Jeanne Millspaugh Bull, a lifelong area resident, passed away Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital. She was 92 years old. Born January 22, 1918 in Newburgh, NY, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth
Millspaugh and Ruth Hasbrouck MacDowell. She married Richard W. Bull on October 29, 1937 in the First Baptist Church on South St., Newburgh. According to the Newburgh Free Academy records Jeanne graduated in 1936. Jeanne was known for her
equestrian accomplishments. In 1946, aboard her beloved Ethel Wynn Glorious, she won the National Three Gaited Championship at the National Horse Show held at Madison Square Garden. An avid bowler, Jeanne was inducted in 1991 into the
Newburgh Women's Bowling Association Hall of Fame. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Powelton Club. Jeanne will be remembered for her generosity and compassion for all living things. Survivors
include her sons, John S. Bull of Wallkill, Kenneth M. Bull and his wife, Christine of Florida; daughter, Jeanne B. Brundage and her husband, Ted of Blooming Grove; brothers, Albert MacDowell and his wife, Doris of Newburgh,

Marguerite Elizabeth "Peg" Parker Breckenridge, age 92, of Montgomery, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 20, 2009 at Kaplan Family Hospice Residence in Newburgh. Marguerite was born October 5, 1917 in
Newburgh, the daughter of Cornelius and Henrietta Doerr Parker. She was predeceased in 1988 by her loving husband, James Breckenridge. A lifelong resident of Newburgh and Montgomery, Marguerite graduated from NFA in 1936 and
retired from Newburgh Beacon Bus Company as office secretary. Marguerite is survived by her daughters, Janice Doogan (Thomas) of Montgomery and Barbara Hatfield (Robert) of Newburgh. She is also survived by her six grandchildren:

John J. Perrott II of the Town of Newburgh, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at home. He was 81. The son of the late David J. and C. Evelyn Pope Perrott, he was born Aug. 23, 1918, in Newburgh. He graduated from Newburgh Schools, Bryant
College and the Renouard School of Mortuary Science. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII aboard the Destroyer Chaplain. Upon completion of his Naval service, he returned to Newburgh where he worked for the family firms known as Perrott's
Funeral Service and Burger's Furniture Store. From 1994 until his death he served as a funeral director for the White & Venuto Funeral Home. Active in civic affairs, he was a member and director of the Newburgh Camera Club; past
Board member of the Newburgh YMCA; 60-year member and past President of the Newburgh Rotary Club, serving as President in 1965; former member of the McQuade Foundation Board of Directors; Board member and Vice President of Meals on
Wheels of Greater Newburgh; and a past Elder and Trustee of Calvary Presbyterian Church and Hudson River Lodge F&AM. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Dennis Perrott, at home; four daughters, Barbara Jill Perrott and Jennifer Emry, both

Veronica Anne Pollock Walsh, Syracuse, passed away peacefully January 11, 2011. Polly was born August 8, 1918, in Newburgh, NY, near her beloved Hudson River. Veronica graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in
June 1936. As a staff sergeant in WWII, she met and married Staff Sergeant Edward L. Walsh. Once discharged from the armed forces, Polly and Ed moved to Syracuse, where they raised their seven children and numerous foster children.
Polly was a child of the Great Depression, a soldier in WWII, an artist, a professional bread baker, a world traveler, a nanny, a local actress of stage and screen, a voracious reader, a teacher of English as a second language, an
intrepid Scrabble player, a spiritual mentor, an advocate for the care of feral cats, and a kind and generous soul who was loved by many. The legacy of her bread baking business lives on today as Glory Bee Bread, a Jail Ministry
project. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward, in 1981 and her son, Timothy, in 1984. Left to keep her memory alive are her sons, Kevin, Stephen, Christopher (Kathy) of Syracuse and Lawrence (Jan) of Conifer, CO; daughters,

Mary Rainey, Middletown, N.Y. a lifelong Newburgh resident, died Monday, October 25, 2004 at Middletown Park Manor. She was 87 years old. The daughter of the late Robert and Minnie Rainey, Sr., Mary was born on August 17, 1917 in
Newburgh. She was employed as a nurse's aide in the baby nursery of St. Luke's Hospital for 25 years until her retirement and was a lifelong member of Meadow Hill Reformed Church, staying active in church activities until the recent past.
She is survived by her adopted daughter Shirley McGuire; three grandaughters, Karen Fielders, Sharon Taylor, Donna Nipper; six great grandchildren, all of Knoxville, TN and her lifelong friend, Betty Beach of Wappingers Falls, NY.

Rosamond Reese DeLong Born on January 1, 1919 in Whiteplains , New York, she was the second daughter of Albert and Beatrice Weaver Reese. She spent her youth at her family home on Ardsley Road in
Scarsdale NY and family homestead on River Road in Balmville NY. After graduating from NFA in 1936 she studied at Bucknell University receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1941. With America’s entry into WWII she answered her
country’s call and enlisted in the Nurse Cadet Corp., committing to serve, pursuant to the enlisting document, “for the duration of the war”. She received her training at Yale University School of Nursing earning a
Masters Degree in Nursing in 1945. After the war, with her RN licensed obtained, she worked as a school nurse for the Wallkill School District. In 1949 she married Robert DeLong (NFA class of 1938) and within the next 5 years they had 4 children: Barbara,
William, Beatrice and Winston. She devoted her life to her family, friends, church and community. On January 4, 1969, the Lord suddenly and unexpectedly called her to her heavenly home. As of September 2011 she is survived by her
children: Barbara Pignataro, William DeLong, Beatrice Dane and Winston DeLong; grandchildren: Jonathan, Michael, and Steven Pignataro; Jennifer and Tara DeLong;, and Ryan Dane. Great grandchildren: Zachary, Nicholas and Nathaniel Pignataro.

10, 1918 at home in Newburgh, NY. He married Isabelle Farr on August 10, 1945. Eldred graduated Newburgh Free Academy in '36 and Hamilton College in '40 with a BS in Chemistry. He was very supportive of Hamilton all his life. He received
his Master's from Teacher's College at Columbia University in '44 and took courses during summers at universities such as Brown & Brigham Young. His first year of teaching was in Greer School near Millbrook in Dutchess County. He
always had very fond memories of that first year when he taught science, music, and Latin and coached ice hockey. The next year he was hired at Walden High School (which became part of Valley Central) and taught science, primarily
Biology and AP Biology, for Valley Central for the next 40 years serving as chair of the Science Department from 1950 until retirement. In June 1981 he retired from Valley Central and taught Human Biology at Orange County Community
College for the next 21 years. He was selected as a Fulbright Exchange Teacher and he and his family spent 1962-63 in Harpenden, Hertfordshire, England. He sometimes wrote to the Citizen Herald, predecessor of Wallkill Valley Times, of
the travels of the family while on "the continent." Eldred was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Montgomery for 57 years, serving as organist for 27 years and as elder and deacon for several terms each. He was active in the Men's Club
and Couples' Club of the church, and worked on the Oyster Suppers from their inception in 1952 until 2009. He chaired the Pastor Nominating Committee in 1986-87. He played the organ at numerous churches as either substitute or
interim, and served as lay preacher at a variety of churches from 1990 to 2007. He also served on the Presbytery of Hudson River's Committee of Ministry for six years. His faith and dedication were deep and strong. He was a member of many
organizations and served them in many capacities: Amphion Glee Club, Yankee Male Chorus, church choirs, Science Teachers' Association of New York State (STANYS) of which he was named a Fellow in 1983, Walden Rotary where he served as Youth
Exchange Officer, National Science Teachers' Association and Orange County Enrichment and Steering Committee to name just a few. In 1981 he was one of three finalists for outstanding biology teacher in New York State. His
commitment to Valley Central included selling tickets at football and basketball games, and chaperoning events. He helped with commencement rehearsals from 1976 through 2009, long after his retirement. He was the advisor to Valley Central's
Enrichment Program from its start until several years after his retirement. He and his wife, Isabelle, loved to travel and organized several group trips to places in the United States and Europe. Eldred lived a full life! His life was
filled with love, joy, education, and service to others. He touched the lives of thousands and will be missed very much. Eldred was predeceased by his wife in 1989. He is survived by his daughters and their husbands: Cheryl and Frank

Kenneth W. Sherwood, a resident of Northville, N.Y died on September 7, 2003 after a long illness. He was 86. Kenneth was the second son of Theodora and Ernest Sherwood, and was born on June 13, 1917 in Newburgh. He married Elizabeth
Ann Lynch on August 5, 1945. He attended Newburgh schools, and after graduation was employed as an aluminum welder until joining the Marine Corps. He attended fight school and navigator bombardier schools in Lajolla, Calf. and Cherry Point
Marine Air Station before being assigned to the 433 Marine Bomber Squadron in the South Pacific. While there he flew 79 combat missions and was awarded several decorations, including three Air Medals. After his discharge, he opened
a plumbing and heating business in Walden and in 1965 moved it and his family to Wells. He also drove a school bus for the Wells Central School District and retired in 1987. He was an avid outdoorsman, a New York State licensed guide,
Hunter Safety instructor and Archery Instructor. He served as an officer in several archery clubs and was a representative to the State and National Field Archery Association. A family statement reads: "A true role model to all who

John Horton Smith passed away peacefully at home on June 13, 2011 at the age of ninety-three. He was born in Norwich, New York in 1917, and grew up there and in Newburgh, New York. He was educated at the Newburgh Free Academy and
Hamilton College, from which he received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1940. He worked at the Bausch and Lomb Company in Rochester, where he met his late wife, Winifred Steinorth Smith, and at the Consolidated Vacuum Corporation. He
was a long-time member of the Rochester Curling Club, a loyal and supportive alumnus of Hamilton College, a Mason, and a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Fairport, New York. He is survived by his son and

LeRoy John Smith, 87, of Harrisonburg, Va., Formerly of Newburgh, N.Y.died on Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg. He was born November 12, 1918 in Newburgh, N.Y. and was the son of
the late Odell and Viola Bell Smith. Mr. Smith worked for Western Union during World War II, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 63 years. He retired as vice-president of the Highland National Bank and served on many local and state
banking boards. He moved to Harrisonburg twenty-two years ago and was a member of Westside Baptist Church and Masonic Lodge #27. On March 3, 1946, he married Agnes Sharp Smith who preceded him in death on July 5, 2003. Surviving are one

Gordon W. Sterling, 89, died Aug. 22, 2007, at his home. He was born in Newburgh, N.Y., and moved to South Florida in the early 1970s, first to Palm Beach Gardens and then to his final retirement home in Port St. Lucie, coming from Middletown,
N.Y. Gordon graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in June 1936. He served in the Army Air Corps. Before retirement, he was a contractor. He won numerous golfing awards and trophies, most recently a trophy for making a hole-in-one at the age

Ralph Austin Stukey, of Catoosa, OK, formerly of Newburgh, passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2011, in Tulsa, OK. He was 93. Son of the late Ernest and Esther Stukey, he was a resident of New York State for 93
years, and was married to the late Helen E. Lockwood Stukey for 50 years. He proudly served as a Captain and officer in charge of the Organization Branch of Adjutant General, in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was awarded the Bronze Star
Medal and also wore the American Defense Ribbon, Mediterranean Theater Ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal. He was employed and retired from Miron Lumber Company in Newburgh. Ralph was a wonderful man. He

Martin J. Toback, D.D.S., 93, devoted and loving husband to Charlotte (Borgenicht) Toback of Vernon, died Tuesday (January 24, 2012) at home. Born in New York, NY on November 23, 1918, son of the late Charles and Ida (Berman) Toback, he had
lived in Newburgh, NY before moving to Vernon in 2004. Dr. Toback received his undergraduate degree from the University of Ohio Northern and his Dental Degree from the University of Illinois. He practiced dentistry for more than 50 years
in Newburgh and was passionate about his profession. He was a member of the Temple Beth Hillel of South Windsor and Temple Beth Jacob in Newburgh, NY and enjoyed golfing, bluegrass and country music, reading, family and friends. He

Dr. Fred A. [Anthony] Valusek, was born on May 18, 1918. He died at home on August 11, 1994 at the age of 76 from complications of a rare blood disease. Dr. Valusek was an ear, nose and throat specialist who practiced in Cherry Hill, New Jersey from 1964 until he retired in 1984. He also was on active staff at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia for a number of years until 1984. He was on the staff at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia from 1957 until 1977 and at the Camden and Vorhees branches of West Jersey Hospital from 1964 until retiring. He had emeritus status at the three hospitals, and was a professor emeritus at Thomas Jefferson University. He served in the Navy from 1944 until 1964, when he retired as captain. During World War II, he attended Marquette University Medical School in the Navy's V-12 program and then did his residence at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital as an ear, nose and throat specialist. He was a Korean War veteran and served in the medical corps on Guam. He spent 2 1/2 years on staff at Wolsom Army Hospital in Fort Dix, New Jersey. He was a diplomat of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Medical Association and its Camden County chapter. He received his bachelor's degree from Hope College in Holland, Michigan. Dr. Valusek, a Cherry Hill resident from 1964 until his death, enjoyed gardening and fishing. Survivors: his wife, Elizabeth McCormack Valusek; two sons, Frederick A. (Jan) of Cherry Hill and J. Road, then at my Aunt Helen Kuprych's home on Washington Terrace and later Orange Lake. My father loved fishing the lake and hiking up Snake Hill, Pogey (not sure of the spelling) Hill and around Muchattoes Lake, Crystal Lake and
Miller's Pond. As we walked with him, my father was able to tell you the names of every kind of tree we passed - knowledge not gotten from any studies but just from growing up in the woods and hills of Newburgh. We were Navy people,

Methodist Church, she taught Sunday school and every Tuesday night for 40-50 years, Jeanette was active in Bible study classes and in the Cradle Roll Dept. She was a world traveler, military wife, and avid vegetable and flower gardener.

Innis "Bud" Williams, retired President of Pleasant Acres Nursery, New Windsor, passed away on Saturday, September 1, 2001, at Westchester Medical Center, Valhalla. He was 83. Born on August 4, 1918 in Plattekill, and longtime
resident of New Windsor, Bud was the son of the late Sadie Morrison Williams and the late Innis Williams. Bud is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marie Hurd Williams, at home; sister Mary Kewley of Montpelier, Vt.; daughter Diane Opdyke

Ollie attended Newburgh schools and proudly served his country in the US Navy, where he spent 14 months in the Navy Hospital. He served for the City of Newburgh Fire Department for 37 years, retiring as Deputy Chief; was a member of Local 589 Benevolent Assn., RPEA, and American Legion of Newburgh. Ollie was a very special man and truly one of a kind. He is survived by his best friend, loving and devoted wife, Florence Ward Winstanley, whom he married on October 28, 1966 in Newburgh, at home; two stepsons, David McDermott and his wife Sue of Montgomery and John McDermott of Newburgh; eight grandchildren, Ronnie, Jackie, Rachel, Cathy, Bonnie, Sudeen, Mary and Frank; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Ruth Yesse Craig , New Windsor, N.Y. a retired administrator for the Town of New Windsor, died Sunday, December 21, 2003 at home. She was 85. She was born to the late Frederick and Viola Yesse on March 5, 1918 in Newburgh. She was the widow

Margaret Evelyn Bowman Blake, 95, passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at St.
Luke’s Hospital in Newburgh. Margaret was born in South Boston, Virginia on January 15, 1918 to William A. Bowman and Mary Callie Allen Bowman. She moved with her family to Newburgh at the age of 9 months where she spent the remainder
of her life. She graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in 1936. Upon graduation from high school, she pursued a career as a Dental Assistant, and was employed by the late Doctors Robert Branch, and Michael Friedman. In 1943, Margaret
married Sergeant George F. Blake, 10th Cavalry, West Point, NY. Margaret was employed with NY Tel, as a telephone operator, and held several catering and service positions. In addition, she was a licensed beautician, who ran her own
business for many years. Her most recent employment was with IBM, East Fishkill where she would retire in 1987. The remainder of her life was dedicated to serving others, and her community. Through the years, Margaret utilized her
gifts and talents in various capacities. She served faithfully in her church for 37 years as an organist, director of the junior and senior choirs, as well as a mentor to the Jones Tones singing group. She also was involved with the Sweet
Adeline’s, an acapella, barbershop vocal group. Margaret was an avid lover of animals. Stray animals were often left at her doorstep with the knowing that they would receive a loving home. She was an active participant in the ASPCA,
and ARF. She also enjoyed fine dining, and loved entertaining. She was extremely passionate about linguistics, culture, dancing, and the arts, which she fervently passed on to her family and friends alike. In her later years,
Margaret was actively involved with the Downing Park Planning Committee, and other revitalization efforts. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband George F. Blake; her parents William and Callie Bowman; her sister Lillian
Bowman; and her brother Allen Bowman. Margaret is survived by her daughters Karen Blake Daniels of Newburgh and Sheila Blake Roberts of Charlotte, NC; her grandchildren Dana Daniels of New Windsor, Erika (James) Poe of Charlotte, NC,
Sydney (Demico) Graham of Charlotte, NC, and Tamara (Undra) Howze of Charlotte, NC; her great-grandchildren Daria, Brandon, Jasmine, Joshua, Shaniyah, Jaden, and Malachi; a cousin Warren (Theresa) Boyd of Newburgh; nieces and nephews; and

Bushart and the husband of Florence Elizabeth Barr Bushart. A graduate of Newburgh Free Academy, he went on to do undergraduate study for 2 years in Gettysburg, Pa., with membership in Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He attended the
University of Pennsylvania Dental School, and was active in the Mask and Wig Drama Club, Swim Team, Penn Dental Journal, and Phi Beta Capa. In our area, Dr. Bushart was active in Newburgh Lodge #309 F&AM, 32nd Degree Scottish and York
Rite, past president of West Point Chapter National Sojourners, Heros of 76, past president of Newburgh Board of Education, active on the Science Advisory Board and involved in the enlargement of the High School building, past
president of Kiwanis Club, Salvation Army Advisory Board, Powelton Club, charter member of Newburgh Camera Club, studied art with Coulton Waugh and John Gould, and at one time played in the Dorsey Brothers Band. A World War II Navy veteran,
he attended St. George's Episcopal Parish serving as deacon and active in the vestry. Dr. Bushart and the late Russ Scobie were pioneers in bringing water fluoridation to Newburgh in 1954. He is survived by his wife, Florence of
Newburgh; his son, Stephen Bushart of Marlboro; his daughter, Cindy, and son-in-law, Richard Ochs, of Newburgh; and his aunt, Alice Heroy of Edison, N.J.; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, William F. Bushart,

Max W. Case of Surfside Beach, S.C. retired in 1977 from a carrier in industrial sales, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, at home. He was 82. The son of the late Charles D. and Vera McDonald Case, he was born April 20, 1918, in Newburgh. He was preceded in

passed gently into her eternal life on September 14, 2013. The daughter of George and Marie Wolf Maybury from Rahway, NJ, she was predeceased by her husbands: Ellsworth E. Weyant and Pat Ahl, as well as her son, Robert Weyant and
brothers: George and Frederick Maybury and sister, Therese Antunovlc. A graduate of Newburgh Free Academy and New Paltz Normal School she was a homemaker and teacher. After retiring from the Cornwall Central School District, she made her
home in Dunedin, FL and Willsboro, NY. Throughout her long life Georgina was open to new opportunities while enjoying reading, traveling, golfing and hosting her many friends and family at her Adirondack summer home on Lake Champlain. Her
